Thank you for visiting the forum for the Virginia Beach Kendo and Iaido club. This group was created in early 2005. I had trained in Kendo and Muso Shinden Ryu Iaido under Jimmy Lovell while I was stationed as a Marine at Camp Lejeune. When I moved home, I realized that there was no South East U.S. Kendo Federation (SEUSKF) Kendo or Iaido in the Hampton Roads area. That being the case, I felt that if I wanted to continue to train in these arts, I'd have to bring them here.
We train in my backyard on a 20'x33' deck I've built for this purpose. We meet once a week on Sundays from 10 am to 12 pm, weather permitting. In 2006, our little group was "adopted" by a dojo in Cherrydale. This is helpful to us as it gives us a dojo to travel to, when schedules and finances permit, to allow us to take advantage of their superior knowledge and experience. We also learn of the latest news in the SEUSKF.
I have been training in both arts since October, 2001. I tested to Shodan in Kendo October, 2003; and Shodan in Iaido January, 2005.
Anyone interested in these classical Japanese sword arts, please feel free to ask any questions. All I ask is that all posts be kept friendly. Any personal attacks or abuse of any kind will is not acceptable, and the offending message will be removed.
