#1: That's a classic "rat-tail tang," sword. You see them at all of the FINEST Flea Markets. Essentially, the blade is (poorly) welded onto a threaded pole, with a nut screwed onto the other end, holding the handle on. At some point, the weld job will fail, resulting in the sociopathically hilarious video we see here.
#2: One word: tenouchi. It's one of the most basic elements of any weapons' training, and, like any kihon, everybody needs to keep practicing it.
