A few things on my mind now that the SEUSKF Championship is behind us:
1. I'd like to start scheduling semi-regular visits to the Koryo Dojo to give us a chance to train with them. I believe it would do all of us some good. As such, I don't want us to necessarily take separate vehicles - no reason we can't car-pool to Richmond and back, so I'd like to hear thoughts as to what would be the best approach.
2. The Shidogakuin's annual Iaido seminar/shinsa is coming up. I don't have an exact date for it, but it's typically somewhere between the end of January to the beginning of February. Anyone that wants to test for promotion in Iaido needs to start thinking about getting to that event, as it is the closest Iaido shinsa we normally see. If you aren't ready for an Iaido shinsa, it's still a 6-8 hour seminar, conducted by a Nanadan. Ask those that have gone, it's more than worth it to go.
3. We are nearing the end of the year, and as such, yearly AUSKF/SEUSKF membership dues will be needed fairly soon. Our good Treasurer, Tina Canada Sensei, usually puts a deadline of the end of February, which I usually dial back by about two weeks: in this case, February 16th. If you wish to test for promotion in either Kendo or Iaido in 2013, you must be a paid member. Unless rates change, they are $70 for adults age 18 and up, and $50 for ages 17 and below. Also, if you are not Dan ranked, my rule is you must be a paid member to wear bogu, or train with an Iaito - due to the included medical and liability insurance. Please, PLEASE don't make me hound everyone this year. The last day I will take anyone's dues money will be Feb 16th - I'm mailing them off to the Treasurer the following Monday, and if yours isn't included, I'm very sorry, but I'm giving plenty of notice. If your personal fincancial situation creates a problem, but you still wish to be a federation member for 2013, you need to let me know as soon as possible.
If anyone has any questions, by all means let me know.
