Okay, unless someone tells me that there's a conflict, I'm pretty well set to have class on Saturdays henceforth. Granted, that brings up the question about Independence Day, but we'll figure that weekend out a bit later.
For this coming weekend, James and Shannon: you two will be learning Fumikomi Ashi - go ahead and google it if you want to. Michael and Jason: make sure you've got your bogu, as I'll have you guys going through bogu kihon drills while they're doing Fumikomi... that, and I've got brand spankin' new bogu - no scuffs, no marks, nothing... it's pristine and new, and I need you guys to help change that. ;D
Two points as far as all that goes.
1. Last weekend was pretty hot, and Jason was feeling the effects of the heat near the end of class, so drink water this week, particularly all day on Friday. We'll be doing some fairly strenuous stuff this weekend, and heat-related injuries are not anything to mess around with.
2. Those of you with no shinai can go ahead and start thinking about obtaining one sometime in the next month, if your finances permit. As I've mentioned before, I've got 8 available at $25 a piece. You don't have to buy a shinai from me by any stretch of the imagination. If you find a better price elsewhere, by all means, go for it - just make sure that it's a size 39 shinai. We're all adults here, so we should all be using adult-sized shinai - none of us are good enough to sacrifice the reach of our sword in gi-geiko.
One final note: the regular area we use at Mt. Trashmore was very wet this past Saturday, so I made the call to move up on the hilltop. Jason went to watch for any late arrivals while I set up my brand-new, shiny gear, but apparently we missed Shannon altogether - I'm very sorry to Shannon that he came out and we didn't spot him to train as well. As such, from now on if our normal training area is unusable for any reason, the top of the hill will be our back-up area - at least until we're inside.
