Dear South Eastern United States Kendo Federatipon Member Dojos:
The competetion committee of the SEUSKF Board of Directors (Arai Sensei, Barr Sensei, and myself) has been looking into some potential fundraisers to finance our team to the National Championships. We have settled on two methods.
1.) A tenugui with the official SEUSKF seal.
2.) A year book with everyone’s picture in it (like your high school or college yearbook).
First I will cover the Tenugui. I want to have them made on royal blue (dark blue) cloth with the SEUSKF emblem in white. Maybe ten years ago, we held a contest to design an emblem for our federation. Mike Yongue of Charlotte Kendo Club’s design won over a field of seven entries. This is the emblem that you can see at our federation website, seuskf.org. Please tell your dojo members about this and ask how many might buy one when they become available. No one else other than the SEUSKF Board of Directors will be allowed to use the official SEUSKF emblem on a tenugui.
PLEASE LET ME KNOW HOW MANY ARE INTERESTED IN PURCHASING A TENUGUI.
The Yearbook--What we envison is a black and white book with a color cover. Each dojo would get two pages for pictures (either a group picture of everone in your dojo or individual pictures as in a school yearbook or both, to catch people who were not there the night you took the group picture), a brief history of your club, with the address, day, and times of your practice. We would want you to send us a list of the names of the people in your picture. We realize some of the larger clubs may need more than two pages but we can work around that. We would need someone in each club to take the picture or pictures and send them to us either digitally over the internet or hard copy of the photographs, along with the names listed in whatever order they are photographed in. We will also have a section on the History of the SEUSKF (with pictures) and the back section will be set aside to sell ads. I imagine most of the Kendo supply businesses would place an ad and maybe some of your members own their own business and would like to show their support by placing an ad with us. If this is successful, we would repeat this yearbook every three years in the year before the next National Championship to raise funds for our team as well as giving everyone who buys one a keepsake (souvenir) of your Kendo career. A tentative price of $15.00 has been set.
As with the tenugui, PLEASE TELL THE MEMBERS OF YOUR DOJO ABOUT The YEARBOOK AND ASK THEM IF THEY WOULD BE INTERESTED IN PURCHASING ONE OR MORE COPIES.
Please notify me of these two inquiries by March 1.
Thank you for your attention to these requests.
Sincerely,
Ken Strawn, President
SEUSKF
